The St Carlo Borromeo school library is an exciting and vibrant resource centre of our school.

Each class is timetabled to visit the library each week for a lesson and to borrow books for reading. We ask that parents help to reinforce library rules which we have in place.

These include:

  • All children should use a LIBRARY BAG with their name clearly marked. (No plastic bags please)
  • Please ensure that books, once borrowed and taken home are kept in a safe place away from younger siblings and pets.
  • Hands should be clean before handling Library books.
  • If any books are damaged or lost they should be reported as soon as possible.
  • Books should be returned to school on the day of your child’s Library lesson to avoid disappointment of not being able to borrow.
  • If your child has not finished reading their Library book, it should still be sent to school and re-borrowed by your child, (if it hasn’t been reserved by another student).

Toddler Storytime

Our Library also offers a ‘Toddler Story Time’ session which takes place each Thursday morning just after the first bell rings at 8.50 a.m. Once you have dropped off your older children to their classrooms, come over to the Library with your youngsters for a story. The children are most welcome to choose a Library book to take home for the week but we would appreciate if you could provide a library bag for them. Board books are also available for our very small children.
At the end of each term, come and join us for morning tea and activity for your child.

Book Club

Our school also organises Scholastic Book Club for all our students. The catalogues offer some terrific book bargains for everyone and all items ordered, earn Bonus Points for our school which we redeem for books. If your child is placing an order, please place correct money in an envelope clearly marked – BOOK CLUB.

Cheque and credit card payments are accepted. Don’t forget to write your child’s NAME and GRADE on the order form.

Library Lunchtime Opening

The Library is opened at lunchtime every Wednesday for our students. This is a great opportunity for those children who would like a quiet space to read, draw, play games or just talk to their friends.

Reading At St. Carlo's

Our aim at St. Carlo’s is to encourage and inspire our students to develop a love of reading and this is clearly evident when we see the enthusiasm and love with which our students have towards books. We are planning many events in the school year to promote reading in our school and we ask that parents work in partnership with us to maintain and foster this love of reading.
Our first initiative to promote reading in our school community was to promote the Premier's Reading Challenge
It had been very encouraging to see so many children from all year levels sign up for this program. In the Library we had selected and marked the "Reading Challenge" books and students were able to borrow these books during their Library sessions.
All participating students have now completed the Challenge and look forward to receiving their certificate from the Premier as well as seeing their names in The Age newspaper.

Parent Library

Did you know that we have a Parent Library at St. Carlo’s?
Our Parent Library is open to all parents and grandparents at our school. We have a wonderful selection of books covering subjects such as cooking, gardening, biographies, parent manuals, countries, fiction...
We even have some popular magazines!
