Better Buddies

We are a Better Buddies School

Better Buddies enables younger children to feel safe and cared for while older children feel valued and respected.

Better Buddies is an initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation designed to create friendly and caring school communities. It involves older students participating in positive, supportive, structured and facilitated one-on-one relationships with younger students.

The Better Buddies Framework is a teacher resource for primary schools is that designed to enhance existing buddy programs.

Better Buddies helps improve the school’s buddy system, has a mascot named Buddy Bear; a cute, fun-loving and caring purple bear.

Better Buddies follows the values of:

  • Friendliness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Caring
  • Including Others
  • Valuing Difference

Better Buddies directly teaches important 'pro-social' values and skills - that is, values and skills that help children to realise the effects that their behaviours can have on other people and to empathise with others. These values and skills contribute to friendships and other social relationships.
